ME 121 FALL
2004 HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 8 - Nov 8, 2004
DUE IN CLASS
(Notice Due Date)
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2004
Problems and Reading Assignments are from DYNAMICS (3rd ED.), Bedford & Fowler (Prentice Hall,
2002)
GOALS
- Provide working knowledge of rigid body (RB)
planar motion (kinematics), in terms of translation and rotation.
- Understand the difference between translation and
rotation.
- Motion of a RB about a fixed axis vs. general
motion.
- Provide working knowledge of the fundamental
concepts of linear velocity and acceleration in rigid body motion
- Provide working knowledge of the fundamental
concepts of angular velocity and acceleration in rigid body motion.
OBJECTIVES
- Special attention to SI units in dynamics (kg, m,
s, N).
- Use of linear velocity and acceleration in simple
components and systems.
- Use of angular velocity and acceleration in
simple components and systems.
- Kinematic analysis of simple planar mechanisms.
Reading assignment
Chapter 17 (Planar kinematics of rigid
bodies): Sections 17.1 to 17.4.
Make sure you study especially carefully ALL the
solved examples.
If you want additional practice, note that
even-numbered problems have answers in back of book.
Problems
1. Problem 17.34
2. Problem 17.48
3. Problem 17.67
4. Problem 17.73
5. Problem 17.91
6. Problem 17.94
