GOALS

• Provide working knowledge of the fundamental concepts of work, energy, power in simple engineering systems.
• Working knowledge of work, work-energy relation, and conservation of energy for various forces (gravity, springs, gravitational attraction.)
• Relate motion and position to energy. Application to particles.

• Special attention to SI units in dynamics (kg, m, s, N).
• Use of WORK, WORK-ENERGY, and CONSERVATION OF ENERGY in simple systems.
• Distinction of conservative and non-conservative forces.
• Use of POWER in simple systems
• Working ability with gravity and spring forces.
• Working ability to use both conservation of energy and Newton's 2nd law to solve different aspects of larger problems.

Reading assignment

Make sure you study especially carefully ALL the solved examples.
