ME 121 FALL 2004 HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 10 - Nov
24, 2004
DUE IN CLASS (Notice Due
Date. This is the LAST problem set)
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2004
Problems and Reading Assignments are from DYNAMICS
(3rd ED.), Bedford & Fowler (Prentice Hall, 2002)
GOALS
-
Provide working knowledge of rigid body (RB) planar dynamics,
in terms of translation of CM and rotation about CM.
-
Use of energy methods in rigid body motion.
-
Use of momentum methods in rigid body motion.
-
Motion of a RB about a fixed axis vs. general planar motion.
-
Combination of energy, momentum, and force methods to solve
more complex problems in engineering systems.
OBJECTIVES
-
Special attention to SI units in dynamics (kg, m, s, N).
-
Use of energy methods. Work-energy principle. Conservation
of energy.
-
Use of linear and angular momentum methods in planar dynamics.
-
Analysis of simple impact problems.
-
Combination of energy/force/momentum methods to solve more
complex problems.
-
Force method: Separate FBD & ACCELD diagrams.
Reading assignment
Chapter 19 (Energy and Momentum in Rigid Body Motion):
Sections 19.1 to 19.6.
Make sure you study especially carefully ALL the solved
examples.
If you want additional practice, note that even-numbered
problems have answers in back of book.
