I am a doctoral candidate in the department of English at the University of Rochester, focusing in late nineteenth and early twentieth century American literature. My dissertation presents a discussion of short story-novel pairings from Henry James, Edith Wharton and Kate Chopin; I examine the opportunities and liabilities of short form and how this genre relates to various formal and social innovations.
